1. Dame Olivia Newton-John

Dame Olivia Newton-John is a world-renowned singer, actress, and activist. Born on September 26, 1948, in Cambridge, England, she moved to Australia at the age of five and later settled in Upper Hunter, New South Wales. Newton-John rose to fame in the 1970s with hit songs such as "Grease" and "Physical." She has won numerous awards throughout her career, including four Grammy Awards. Additionally, she has been involved in various charitable and environmental causes, raising awareness and funds for cancer research.

2. Mick Young

Mick Young, born on August 25, 1936, in Cessnock, New South Wales, was a prominent Australian politician who represented the Division of Port Adelaide in the House of Representatives. Although not originally from Upper Hunter, Young's wife, Judy, was born and raised in Muswellbrook. Young served as a Minister in the Australian government, holding various portfolios including Education, Immigration, and Employment. He played a significant role in shaping Australia's political landscape during his career, which spanned from 1974 until his retirement in 1988.

3. Jim Haynes

Jim Haynes is an acclaimed Australian author, entertainer, and folklorist, known for his extensive knowledge and appreciation of Australian history and culture. Born on July 29, 1942, in Tamworth, New South Wales, he spent much of his childhood in Werris Creek in the Upper Hunter region. Haynes has written numerous books on Australian folklore, bush poetry, and country music. His works have been well-received, and he has become a prominent figure in preserving and promoting Australia's unique heritage.

4. Ken Rosewall

Ken Rosewall, born on November 2, 1934, in Sydney, New South Wales, is a former professional tennis player who is considered one of the greatest players in the sport's history. While Rosewall wasn't born in Upper Hunter, he spent part of his childhood in Murrurundi, a town located within the region. During his career, Rosewall achieved numerous successes, winning multiple Grand Slam titles and being ranked as the world's top player. He was known for his exceptional skill, finesse, and longevity in the sport, continuing to compete at a high level well into his 40s.

5. Bruce Devlin

Bruce Devlin, born on October 10, 1937, in Armidale, New South Wales, is a former professional golfer who achieved notable success during the 1960s and 1970s. Though not born in Upper Hunter, Devlin spent time in Scone, a town within the region, during his childhood. Devlin won multiple tournaments throughout his career and played in several major championships. After retiring from professional golf, he transitioned into golf course design and became renowned for his work creating exceptional golf courses worldwide.

6. John Sullivan

John Sullivan, born on September 14, 1948, in Quirindi, New South Wales, is a former Australian rugby league footballer who excelled in his playing career during the 1970s. Though not born specifically in Upper Hunter, Quirindi is located within the region. Sullivan played as a halfback for various teams, including the St. George Dragons and the Western Suburbs Magpies. He represented New South Wales and Australia in international matches, known for his exceptional skills and leadership on the field.
